Today's the Day

Awake at 5:10 am, sitting in the dark. No sense getting used to local
time, because for the next week the only time that matters is Race
Time. What time is it in Annapolis, MD? The Race Across America team
start is at 5:00 Race Time, 2:00 local time. My teammate Antonino Vita
and I are the starters for this year's Team Type 2 squad. Given the
nature of the start (teams start the initial "parade route" section at
1 minute intervals) we won't actually start "racing" until after 3:00.
It's a day full of anticipation, of hurry up and wait, of simmer...

There are a ton of teams this year. Starting before us are 3 2-man
teams and 25 4-man teams. While there were 8 8-man teams lasy year,
this year there are 12. So, the team race has 40 teams totalling over
200 racers. It's the biggest RAAM in history, and it starts today...
